Erik Serrano is a postdoctoral researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
Erik received his PhD in Computational Bioscience from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, where he worked developing methods to quantify image-based profiles from microscopy images of cells. His graduate work included leading the development and contributions of tools such as Pycytominer and Buscar. Much of his work also involved high-content screening projects, where he applied these methods to effectively rank compounds using image-based profiles.
Now he works with Gisele Miranda, focusing on leveraging deep learning and AI methods to extract embeddings from microscopy images. He aims to apply the skills he gained during his PhD to extract biological insights from these embeddings, providing a better understanding of how cells behave under specific treatments/conditions.
In his free time, Erik loves to read, hike, travel, dance, and learn new languages. He recently learned Brazilian Portuguese and is now looking to challenge himself by learning Swedish, aiming to reach a conversational level during his time in Sweden.
